Biggleswade U16s 29-15 Chess Valley B U16s
Biggleswade U16s started their Herts and Middlesex league campaign with a home game against the visiting Chess Valley B on Sunday morning.
Biggy took the lead after just five minutes when the back line ran a well-executed set move from the back of a scrum. A couple of passes moved the ball away from the forwards before Sam Bartley’s perfectly-weighted kick through saw George Baker outpace the retreating defence to place the ball down over the try line. Confidence now high, a second try was soon added by Krysh Sood.
The visitors found their feet and ran in a strong try, but Biggleswade worked hard as a team to hold back a reinvigorated Chess Valley. Their determination paid off when Elliot Perkin broke through the gainline to score under the posts. Sam Skirving converted to make it 17-5 at half time.
Chess Valley came out fighting at the start of the second half but Biggy second row Josh Quilliam and winger Charlie Franklin (both later awarded Forward and Back of the Match) created turnover after turnover with strong tackles and quick rucking.
A well-placed crossfield kick was collected by Franklin who scored in the far corner and edged his team further ahead. Slick passing and handling skills got the ball to the wing for Franklin to score a second try.
Chess Valley scored two tries in the second half to make it 29-15, but Jacob Estes valiantly held the ball up on the line to stop the opposition getting a bonus point.
Biggleswade now have a few weeks of training before they travel away to St Neots for a friendly. New players are always welcome - for more information click on our Teams tab at the top of this web page.
