Biggleswade 39 St Neots 7
St Neots scored first but eventually class told as Biggleswade scored seven tries for win number ten.
The match was switched to Langford Road after the pitch on the Common was declared unfit because of a frozen pitch.
Jack Sharp returned at scrum half after a short break in Dubai where the temperature is 30 degrees centigrade. Will Evans moved to full back with Ben Yates and Jack Dodds starting in the forwards.
In the early exchanges were even as each side probed for a weakness in the opposition. But it was a wakeup call when St Neots scored first with a good move down the right flank. However, it was to be their only score.
From the start of the game Biggleswade had looked threatening but cold hands squandered too many chances.Biggleswade often looked odds on to score but conceded too many penalties when in attacking mode.
Eventually Biggleswade got a reward for their efforts with number eight Ben Reedman going over for the first try. Another soon followed from flanker Elliott Tunstall. It put Biggleswade ahead. And that’s where they stayed gradually building a decent score.
Prop Kyle Loan went over from close range after a big build up by the forwards who were dominant throughout. As always James Emerson in the lineout was a real thorn on a St Neots throw-in. If he doesn’t win the ball outright, he still forces an error by the hooker.
The three-quarters too had their moments. Fullback Will Evans joining the line at pace scythed through the St Neots line like a combine through a field of corn. He scored as did centre Tom Richardson, so often the play maker and not the finisher.
Dom Nott playing in tracksuit bottoms to ward off the cold was still an awesome sight when on the charge. But St Neots tackled bravely so it was a contest throughout.
The scoring was rounded off by the skipper. Jake Devereux who as hungry as ever scored his seventh try of the season to make him the leading try scorer for the forwards.
Sam Woods only managed two conversions saving his kicking skills to gain ground with the boot.
Since the early loss to Stewart & Lloyds the team has beaten everyone in the league. They have an average of forty-two points for and just thirteen against.
Now the return fixtures start with a short trip to Bedford to play the Swifts. In recent seasons they have been a difficult side to beat on their own patch so nothing should be taken for granted.
