Biggleswade 39 Bugbrooke 14

The margin of victory was quite wide at the end but it was only in the last quarter that Biggleswade pulled away. They remain unbeaten in Counties 1 East (South). Next up is a seventy-mile trip to Vipers in Leicester.

Biggleswade are back in try scoring mode with six touchdowns shared around the team. The forwards got four but there were two sparkling efforts from the backs.

The first came with only two minutes on the clock. But the game was highly competitive throughout.

Biggleswade were forced to make several changes with Kyle Loan, Jack Sharp and Joe Rowntree all unavailable for one reason or another. Charlie Stevens moved to scrum half, Sam Woods had his first run out of the season at full back and the ever-dependable Ben Watson came in at prop.

The forwards were on top in the tight scrums frequently shunting their opponents back. Sometimes this dominance was rewarded with a penalty.

Coach Jimmy Hart never slow to vent his feelings, both bad and good, was heard to shout, “Great control forwards” as they trundled over the line for another touchdown.

With Ben Reedman on the replacements bench the lineouts were more even with both packs disrupting the others throw in.

The three-quarters had the measure of the opposition right from the start. They had solid defence which turned into pulsating attack in an instant.

Leading 21-7 at the break Biggleswade stretched their lead with another try before Bugbrooke added a second. The visitors briefly looked like getting closer to Biggleswade.

Biggleswade emptied their bench and turned up the gas. They added two more tries and a penalty to snuff out any hopes Bugbrooke had of getting back.

Biggleswade’s physio commented on the game, “Another great win for a great team. Bugbrooke were good when the backs got the ball, but the Biggy forwards dominated.”

Try scorers were Charlie Franklin, Dom Nott, Jake Deveraux, Elliott Tunstall, Luke Adde and Charie Stevens. Stevens added three conversions and Sam Woods kicked a penalty.

On Saturday Biggleswade travel to south Leicester to take on Vipers. In their last match they lost heavily to Twocestrians but beat Bugbrooke in a high scoring match. Last time the two teams met it was very tight.
