A coach and players from Biggleswade Rugby Club met up with some top rugby stars at a mentoring day at Twickenham on Sunday.
Brad Green, coach with Biggy’s U14s, accompanied by Guy Hartley and Joey Green from the U14s team, headed to the home of English rugby to take part in the Irwin Mitchell Mentoring day with Dylan Hartley (ex England captain), Jessica Breach (England and Quins player), Simon Middleton (Head Coach of the Red Roses), and Matt Proudfoot (England Forwards Coach).
“There were coaching drills and question & answer sessions looking at the role of mentors within community clubs, from both player and coach perspectives,” said Brad. “It was great to talk to England coaches and for the players to learn different techniques.”
The experience young people have while playing rugby is a major driver to their future participation, and mentoring can be a brilliant way of helping them build their confidence, social skills and teamwork. If you want to know more about the England Rugby Irwin Mitchell Mentoring Club (for adults who support players in the 14 to 18-year-old game of rugby union across England), speak to Brad at the club.
