Biggleswade put last week’s disappointment behind them with a swift return to winning ways against tenth placed Northampton Casuals.
There were eight changes from the side which put forty points on the same opposition way back in October. Biggleswade gave a debut to Charlie Stevens while Ollie Vagg was celebrating his 50th 1st xv appearance. He could only stay for half the match as he had another pressing engagement to get to.
It didn’t take long for Biggleswade to score their first try. From a scrum on the half-way line a move went up-field at great pace with Charlie Stevens scoring with his first touch of the ball.
The tight scrums were even but the Biggy pack were the more organised in the driving maul. But the Biggleswade three-quarters looked threatening every time they had space to move.
It must be disheartening for some sides who batter away at the Biggleswade try line without reward. Then in a trice to see Biggy weather the storm, break out and score at the other end in a couple of swift passages of play.
Biggleswade had the bonus point in the bag for four tries and were over forty points ahead before the Casuals sneaked in for a couple of consolation scores.
Post match coach Jimmy Hart was full of praise for the way the team had bounced back from last week’s setback. “Training was outstanding this week and we showed that quality from the first minute,” he said.
His nomination for Man-of-the-match was number eight Ben Reedman. “His carries and work rate were excellent. It was also a very promising debut from Charlie Stevens.”
Try scorers were Charlie Stevens, Charlie Franklin (2), Ben Reedman, Tom Anderson (2) Jake Dodd (2)
Charlie Stevens added three conversions.
This Friday there is a Beds Cup match against Dunstablians under the floodlights at Langford Road. Kick-off is 7.30pm
