Biggleswade suffered their worst loss to Queens for many a year as they went down by 8-40 in their latest Midlands 3 East (South) league match and barring a miracle look certain to be relegated.

On a breezy afternoon Biggleswade failed to use the conditions to their best advantage and were simply blown away by a dominant Queens’s outfit.

After having to work last week Michael Haddow returned to the back row and Del Tribeck came in at fly-half. The normally ever present Elliot Tunstall had apparently to meet his future in-laws.

Jack Diemer was out with a calf strain so the touch line was much quieter without his loyal fan club giving vocal encouragement to his every rampage.

Oliver Latimer made his first start in the second row after being a replacement last week. Making his debut was Harry Askham who had a run out in the second half.

Biggleswade had the advantage of the fresh wind in the first half but despite being camped in Queens’ twenty-two for lengthy periods could not force a way over the line. The only score was a solitary penalty from Del Tribeck.

Queens though scored on their first visit to Biggy’s end and added a second before the break to lead 12=3 at half-time.

In the second half with the assistance of the wind the Queens kicker made immense amounts of ground sometimes over half the pitch length.

The visitors also used their superiority in the pack to score a couple of tries from catch and drives at lineouts near the Biggleswade line.

But Biggleswade scored a consolation try when Del Tribeck crossed the line under the posts.

The result sees Biggleswade rooted to the bottom of the league table. St Neots had an unlikely away win at Stockwood Park who Biggleswade play in the final match of the season.

Three from bottom are Birstall who seem to have almost folded yielding their latest match to Casuals without starting. They do lead Biggleswade by seven points. They have to play Queens, Rushden, St Neots and Stamford to complete their league programme.

But will Biggleswade secure enough points from their remaining matches against Rushden, St Neots, Stamford and Stockwood Park to overtake them?
