Biggleswade U15’s Digest

(East Midlands Cup Game)

Biggleswade (H) 34 – 0 (A) Brackley
(5 tries, 3 Conversion & 1 Penalty)

Here we are again at the start of another exciting season. Where we have seen all the boys grow in frame and stature over the summer period. Some have been involved in the Biggy touch tournament, and this has had a positive effect, but the numbers remain strong in the squad, as we have not lost any players.

Pre-season has gone by in a heartbeat, and this allowed us time to build up some match fitness, along with working on new drills and trying different players out in alternative positions.

As a coaching Unit, we have also grown with a tight nit unit being assembled, with Johnny Richardson also joining the ranks, to establish if he would like to coach, and although early stages, the energy and excitement he brings to the group is infectious, so we all hope he continues with us and a big warm welcome to the team.

Match summary:
In what was our first official match this season, the boys came out strong and motivated which was incredible to see. From the moment they warmed up and stretched, they looked ready and as the game went on, it certainly did not show as being the first game, in fact it looked like they were ten games in.

From the first blow of the whistle, our team were gritty, determined, and vocal, so this unnerved Brackley from the outset. Our forward and back line ran at them on the press like a wave at its peak, with several players to each tackle going them no time or space which created panic. As coaches it was like watching poetry in motion.

Quite often we lose tries or even games when we concede, due to holding back on the tackles and allowing players through, but today with an immense amount of pride, we saw all our players get involved in tackles across the pitch. This was a team effort, and we had fifteen players creating a formidable wall that was at times impenetrable.

In the team today there were several players who stepped beyond their normal comfort zone and showed improvement in their own game with some in several ways. This is an incredibly positive sign for the season, if we continue to grow in this way, and work and fight together to see teams off and hit them on the scoreboard.
Man of the Match:

MOTM (Forward) – Reece

Reece – We saw glimpses of this last season, but with a strong and dominant performance from our forward powerhouse, we have seen fitness levels excel and with a full game today, he was motoring forward and making key decisions in the pass well into the latter stages. The rugby intelligence of this young man is increasing by the week, and he takes the team forward in strength and spirit. Excellent work. Well done.

MOTM (Back) – Jaden
Jaden – for somebody who grew in stature last season, he has surpassed himself already with a new level of energy, confidence and control this season. Physically Jaden is becoming a key tackler on the pitch, and with pinpoint timing and strength, this was on show again today. The way in which he controlled the game with intelligent play, decision making, and open play kicking was exceptional. An assure performance a delight to watch.

Additional Mentions
I could give a mention to each individual player, but this would be unfair to the two recipients above after they stood tall today, so instead I would just like to say what a commanding team effort this was out there on the pitch, and you should all be incredibly proud of yourselves.! Now you must keep motivating each other and yourselves to keep going and drive each other on to keep brushing these teams aside and build upon the reputation that is “Biggleswade RUFC U15’s” A force to be reckoned with and write us off at your peril.
I would also like to mention our incredible First Aiders for their efforts today. Not only did they look after our boys, but they supported three of the Brackley Boys too. This included several headcase concussion reviews. Heidi & Zoe. Our thanks go to you for this amazing support and keeping us safe.

With the above on head injuries, I know this has been shared on the parent’s group recently, but please see below URL Link to Headcase e-Learning module. This is valuable information to understand the risks and recovery to any head injury.
