A Game of Two Halves
Biggleswade 17 Stewarts & Lloyd 31
Biggleswade lost again for the third time in a row. They had lost three times to the same club last season in league and cup. But after a poor start to the season by the visitors a close game had seemed in prospect.
But things could have been worse. After half an hour Biggleswade were 31 points down having conceded 4 tries some of them from terrible decisions.
Was it “a comedy of errors” or a “match of two halves”? Certainly, Stewarts started like an express train while Biggy were still on the station.
After an early penalty there were four converted tries. Two came in quick succession where a lack of tackling was evident and another two from stray clearance kicks.
Eventually the freight train got going and Biggleswade started to play. Debutant Josh Swift scored a try under the posts which Charlie Stevens converted.
The second half was all Biggleswade. Biggleswade emptied their bench to find the best combination.
The penalties started to go Biggleswade way and going forward led to the next try from Charlie Stevens. Jake Deveraux added another to make the score rather more respectable.
Still a disappointing result but life in a higher league was never going to be easy. This Saturday is a blank week before Biggleswade is on the road again to Old Laurentians in Rugby which is 70 miles from Biggleswade. Most recently they drew with Bugbrooke, lost to Stamford and beat Bourne.
