Late on in the match Brackley were gifted two tries from interceptions. But Biggleswade held their nerve scoring their fifth try late on to secure victory.
Biggleswade were missing six players from last week’s starting line-up including captain Jake Devereux at a family wedding. The absentees were mainly in the three-quarters but luckily the pack was on song as they scored all five tries.
Right from the start the Biggleswade pack showed that they were the stronger outfit by shoving Brackley off their put in. The driving maul from the line out was also a profitable source of try scoring. Brackley knew what to expect and they got it!
Centre Michael Hall put the number ten shirt on as Sam Woods was unavailable. He only knows the direct route but his strength and pace take him a long way into the opposition defence.
When kicking was needed out of defence it was scrum-half Joe Rowntree who took the lead. He can kick over the top or penalties to touch. But the strength and accuracy of his pass is a work of art in its self.
Hooker Dom Nott likes nothing better than being a bull in a China shop scattering opponents out of his way like skittles in a bowling alley.
But he was not the only forward to catch the eye. Lock James Emerson who has matured so much since he made his debut ten years ago. He dominates the line out and does the heavy work at close quarters.
Biggleswade scored their first try early on and added more to lead 21-5 at the break having played up the slope but with the wind.
Brackley urged on by a large crowd of noisy supporters kept in touch with a couple of unconverted tries.
After soaking up the pressure Biggleswade broke out to go further ahead. At 28 to 10 they seemed to have the game in the bag.
But Brackley used their speedy number ten to grab two tries from stray passes the second WHEN Biggleswade looked odds on to score another try.
It made for a desperate few minutes but Biggleswade scored on the stroke of full-time to wrap up victory and another five points.
Debutantes Dan Chandler and Sam Franklin had cameo performances late on which kept the pace going.
Scorers were Kyle Loan, Dom Nott, James Emerson, Jake Dodd, Jensen Beal. John Richardson kicked all five conversions.
The next league match is in two weeks’ time when Dunstablians visit Langford Road. They came down at the end of last season and are still struggling.
