St Albans 3rd XV 5-62 Biggleswade 2nd XV
Biggleswade 2nds got their league campaign off to a great start away to St Albans 3rds on Saturday.
With a long unavailable list, the line-up was much changed to the team which won the Corona Cup earlier in the year. However, there was plenty of skill and determination on show, which saw them notch up ten tries and six conversions.
In the first half the defensive pressure contributed to an attacking platform from which to threaten. The set piece was working efficiently, affording the visitors plenty of opportunities.
In the second half the game opened up even more. However the 2nds showed composure to maintain quality on both sides of the ball and scored tries through both forwards and backs. Ryan Bray scored four tries whilst Arran Picking, playing his first game of the year, scored two tries.
2nd team captain Jack Unite was pleased with the performance and said: “We went out aiming to perform the basics to a high standard and we achieved that.”
Please note: the 2nds are next in action on Sat Oct 2, when they travel to Weston RUFC. Their home match v OA Grizzlies - originally scheduled for 25 Sep - has been rearranged to 9 Oct.
