Hendon 2s 39 - 0 Biggleswade 2nd XV
Despite Storm Dennis battering the UK over the weekend, Biggleswade 2nd XV’s travelled south for their first league game in February.
With weather conditions awful, and the pitch waterlogged, both sides were expecting a slog-fest but still had ambitions to move the ball wide where possible.
It was Hendon, benefiting from a more stable line-up compared their visitors, who made the brighter start and scored two tries early on.
As Biggleswade pressed hard and looked dangerous, they just couldn’t build up enough pressure to score. This despite some tantalising breaks from Tom Richardson and Will Roake.
At half time it was a chance to reset with the scoreboard reading 27-0 to the home side. With a raft of changes from both sides, and the pitch deteriorating even further, the game become more of a scramble.
Tackling was made harder by the slippery conditions and Hendon were able to get two second half tries. Biggleswade still showed great attitude in not dropping off despite the score line.
At the final whistle the Biggleswade boys were in high spirits and all those involved had enjoyed the game.
Although it was a loss, the positive attitude and resilience shown will stand the team in good stead as they move into the final quarter of their league campaign.
Next weekend the 1st XV host Brackley whilst the 2nds play Cuffley. The 3rds are also hoping to have a run out at home. If you’re interested in joining please contact the club via the website or join us at training on a Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9pm.
