Datchworth 3rd XV 26 - 29 Biggleswade Men’s 3rd XV
After a tough start to the season, Biggleswade 3rds took a trip to play Datchworth 3rds for what was always going to be a tough test.
Although Biggleswade started reasonably strongly and were moving the ball well, Datchworth managed to break their defensive line to take the first try of the game. This gave the home side the momentum and put Biggy on the back foot.
Once again, poor defence from Biggy caused another break and Datchworth increased the pressure with another try. Biggy soon got their head back in the game and started to apply pressure of their own, managing to get on the scoresheet for the first time, but they finished the first half well behind with the score at 26-7.
Biggy needed to give everything if they wanted to walk away with the win, and they proved themselves up to the task. In the second half, they improved their attacking shape and passing moves, as they began to close the gap. There was no stopping them, and the tries kept coming, with them overtaking the hosts 26-29 by the final whistle.
- Although there was no game for the 1sts this week, it is a real achievement for Biggy to be fielding three senior Mens’ teams this season, and testament to the ambition and welcoming attitude of the club, which is for everyone, no matter what their experience. Turn up for training on Tuesday and Thursdays after the Christmas break to find out more.
