We were sad to hear of the death of Michael Wilson, a former player and one of the club’s ‘old boys’.
Mike, a Biggleswade man through and through, played at the club as a young man, helping dig the foundations for Biggleswade Rugby Club’s original shed-clubhouse at Langford Road in the late 1950s.
He made many friends at the Biggleswade RUFC, and was delighted to meet up with some of them at our 70th reunion event in 2019.
His love of rugby and of his local club was infectious, with his brother Clive, sons Mark and Ian, and daughter Carolyn all carrying on the family tradition of becoming Biggleswade RUFC players.
Mike was a true gentleman; a kind, funny charmer who was always smiling and cracking jokes - except, for once, in this team photo from 1957/58, where he seems to be attempting ‘game face’.
He will be hugely missed, and our thoughts go out to his family at this time.
His funeral will take place at St Andrew’s Church, Biggleswade, on Thursday 4 May, at 12pm, followed by a wake at Biggleswade & District Con Club.
