Biggleswade 2nd XV 47-28 Old Albanians 4th XV
In the first home league game of the season on Saturday, Biggleswade 2nds were able to move past the previous week's defeat away to Weston with a convincing win against OA Grizzlies.
Biggy raced into a 12-0 head start with tries from Dan Rogers and Ollie Vagg. When the visitors scored in response the home side had to up their game, their increased efforts leading to Captain Jack Unite (sponsored by Shefford Consultancy) going over after collecting an offload.
With George Chapman moving the ball elegantly at fly-half and Dave Leslie tearing up trees in the forwards, the 2nds managed to build a 26-7 lead.
Old Albanians stuck at their task and were rewarded by finishing the first half brighter. This continued into the second period, reducing Biggy’s lead to 6 points
After the drenching they had last weekend, Biggleswade were keen to play expansive rugby in dry conditions. They wrestled back momentum, extended their lead, and finished with a flourish to run out deserved winners.
Next weekend the 2nd XV travel to Cheshunt to play their 3rd XV. This is always a tough fixture but another win will help to put the league campaign back on track.
