Biggleswade Rugby Club will always go the extra mile for charity - or make that 70 miles!

Club coach Tony McClure is one of 16 coaches and club members tackling a long distance bike ride to raise money for Sue Ryder and Mind, two charities close to the club's heart.

They've been in training ahead of the 70 mile cycle ride, which will start and finish at the club in Langford Road on July 10. Four more club members will take part in support roles.

The route runs from Langford to Sutton, Potton, Gamlingay, and to St Neots and back, then to Rushden via Kimbolten, and on to Bedford before returning to the club at Langford. The event will comply with all Covid-19 safety rules in force at the time.

"We originally planned the ride to coincide with the Six Nations, but we had to move the date because everyone was in lockdown," said Tony. "We've managed to get in some training rides and we're looking forward to finally getting the chance to complete the challenge and raise money for the two charities. A few aching muscles will be worth it - any money we can raise is really useful, and more important than ever for the charities, because they haven't been able to do as much fundraising as normal throughout the pandemic."
