Biggleswade Men’s 1st XV finished their dream unbeaten season with two away wins in a week.
Biggy had already won the league with both games to spare, but a 44-10 victory against St Neots last Wednesday and a 29-13 victory on Friday against Stamford College Old Boys kept that unbeaten record intact (with two draws keeping them just short of a perfect season).
Biggy will relish their promotion to Midland 3 East (South) with confidence rightly high.
Head coach Matt Skirving was delighted with his team’s performances.
“Huge thanks is due to every single player who has pulled on a Biggy shirt this season. It has been a great achievement to get three teams out some weekends, playing some great rugby,” said Matt.
"Everyone has put their bodies on the line with hours of training and support for each other both on and off the field.
Matt added: “Not only have the 1sts have won their league, unbeaten, for the first time since 1990, but the 2nds have had a hugely successful season, too, finishing with a riveting clash with Saracens ARFC on Friday night. We are just waiting for confirmation on where they finish in the league but keeping everything crossed it is top. However other teams’ last results go, it does mean the 2nds have also secured promotion - an amazing double for the club.”
He continued: “Our 3rds have also played well and on occasions lent players to the opposition to ensure games went ahead, allowing them to finish 4th in their league.
“Thank you to all captains for leading our teams and representing Biggleswade RUFC in the best possible way; to everyone who has been involved in drumming up numbers week in week out and getting team sheets out; and also to everyone who has been involved behind the scenes ensuring we have pitches to play on and food and drink after training and games.
“Finally a huge thanks to the coaching team for the time and commitment it has taken to achieve everything we have this season. I am so proud to be part of such an amazing team, squad and club.”
