Biggleswade RUFC Men’s 1sts have been presented with a commemorative plaque in honour of winning the Midlands 4 East (S) 2021-2022 league.

Their achievement was marked at the East Midlands Rugby Union Presentation Evening, held at Biggleswade Rugby Club. Winning teams from other leagues in the region, along with EMRU officials and volunteers, were also recognised for their achievements on and off the pitch.

Biggleswade’s 1st XV secured promotion to the Counties 2 Midlands East (South) league after a brilliantly consistent season, in which they won the league with an unbeaten record (with only two draws keeping them just short of a perfect record).

The feat was the icing on the cake on top of a tremendous season for the club, which also saw the Men’s 2nd XV finish top of the Hertfordshire/Middlesex Merit 4 (NE). Doing ‘the double’ (a simultaneous 1sts & 2nds promotion-winning season) is a feat never before achieved in the club’s history, and shows the current depth of talent and determination in the Biggy Men’s squad.

Head Coach Matt Skirving reiterated the thanks he gave to everyone at the club following the teams’ league victories.

“A huge thanks to everyone involved in such a successful season, from the coaching team for their time and commitment and the captains who lead the teams and represent the club, to everyone involved in behind the scenes work in getting the teams organised, the pitches maintained, and the food and drink provided.

“I am so proud to be part of such an amazing team, squad and club,” he added.

Club Chair Teri Taylor said: “Everyone involved in last season’s achievements should be hugely proud. Thanks also to our supporters - we hope to deliver some more great rugby for them to watch in the new leagues.”

Biggleswade senior mens training takes place every Tue & Thu from 7pm, with pre-season sessions starting from 12 July. New players are welcome, and no prior experience is needed. Just turn up, or message Matt Skirving to find out more.

Look under the Teams tab at the top of the page for more info about our Senior Men's and Ladies teams (Ladies training is every Tue & Fri from 7pm, also starting on 12 July). Don't forget our thriving Minis, Youth, and Girls sides, too.
