Northampton Casuals 10 Biggleswade 46
Biggleswade scored seven tries in another convincing win away in Northampton. The pitch was in excellent condition despite all the rain and the weather stayed dry.
The aging war-horse Kyle Loan returned to the pack to replace the damaged James Emmerson. Otherwise, the team was the same apart from some changes in the forward line up.
Right from the start the Biggy Boys were on top getting strikes against the head in the scrum, opposition ball at the line-out and one turnover after another. When they got in the opposition “22” they always looked like scoring.
Centre Michael Hall carried on from where he left off the last game. Like then he sliced through the defence for a try under the posts.
On a rare visit to Biggleswade’s half, Casuals cut the lead with a penalty but they soon went further behind.
The pace and the power of number eight Ben Reedman made a break up the left. Tom Richardson was on hand to offer support before off-loading to Jake Dodd for the touchdown.
On a pitch much wider than they play on at home Biggleswade relished the opportunities to bring their speedy backs into play. It was the fast scrum half Jack Sharp who scored next after Jake Devereux showed he was no slouch in creating the space in the build-up.
Turning round 19-3 up it was captain Devereux who scored next. It was his sixth try of the season in six games. It was also the bonus point try.
Winger Tom Anderson finished off a cracking three-quarter move after the forwards turned over the ball at a breakdown. Sam Woods missed the conversion from near the touchline. A rare lapse in a month when he has slotted everything over.
Biggleswade decided the time was right to ring the changes. Matt Horgan came on for a run out after a long layoff. He immediately made his mark with a turnover.
Kyle Loan was subbed by Whitbread product Dan Chandler. Missing Kyle in defence Casuals immediately scored their only try. But any thoughts of a revival were quickly snuffed out with a Sam Woods penalty and another brace of tries.
Next up in two weeks’ time are the basement boys Bedford Queens. They have conceded over 300 points in their seven losses.
Try scorers were Jake Devereux Tom Anderson (2), Michael Hall. Jake Dodd, Jensen Beal Sam Woods kicked 4 conversions and a penalty.
Team: Ben Watson, Dom Nott, Kyle Loan (Dan Chandler), Jake Devereux, Jake Dodd, Jensen Beal (Matthew Horgan), Elliott Tunstall, Ben Reedman, Jack Sharp (Gavin Taylor), Sam Woods, John Richardson, Michael Hall, Tom Anderson, John Richardson, Quinn Heath.
