Biggleswade 31 Luton 14
Biggleswade met the challenge of Luton head on and were worthy winners securing another five points in their latest league encounter.
Biggleswade started like a house on fire scoring their first try in less than five minutes of the start. Kyle Loan getting the credit after the Biggy pack trundled over the line from a five-metre lineout. It was kyle’s second of the season more than he achieved all last campaign.
Michael Hall and Ollie Vagg were restored to the centre after last week’s absence. They certainly brought pace and power to the mid-field. Michael Hall in particular had one searing run which split the Luton defence wide open leading to a try.
Luton were guilty of a host of high tackles so they were lucky to keep everyone on the pitch.
Biggleswade stretched their lead with a similar try to the first. The pack rattled over the line with Ben Yates getting the final touchdown.
The Biggleswade defended strongly all afternoon only cracking twice. Luton cut the lead with their first score moving the ball from side to side in the “22” before scoring wide out.
Biggleswade responded straight away with a great run from “silky” Sam Woods creating an opportunity for Dom Nott to grab Biggleswade’s third try.
The fourth soon followed after an optimistic clearance kick by Luton back up the centre of the park.
Fullback Jack Sharp gathered the ball safely as he did all afternoon. He launched centre Michael Hall on a scything run into the heart of the Luton defence. The ball found its way to winger Tom Anderson who crossed for Biggleswade’s 4th try and the bonus point.
Turning round 22-7 down Luton briefly threatened a revival but that only resulted in a second converted try. It came when their lively winger broke away. He chipped the ball through the defence winning the race for the touchdown.
Biggleswade held their nerve They exited well from threatening situations to go back on the attack.
Luton kept infringing so Sam Woods dealt out the punishment. He slotted home three successful penalties to stretch Biggleswade’s tally past thirty points.
Scorers were Tom Anderson, Ben Yates, Dom Nott, Kyle Loan, Sam Woods added 1 conversion & 3 penalties.
The next fixture is an away trip to Brackley who have won once in their first four matches. However, they like to throw the ball about averaging nearly thirty points for but conceding fifty per match.
