Biggleswade 53 Brackley 0
Biggleswade continued the drive for promotion with another convincing win. Coach Jimmy Hart described the win as “ruthless” in the post-match huddle He named flanker Liam Dunne as the Man-of-the-Match for his tackling, tenacity and turnovers.
The Biggleswade team was unchanged in the forwards. Will Evans and Alex Borg replaced John Richardson and Jack Sharp in the backs with Jack moving to the bench.
After a terrible kick off from Biggleswade which led to a scrum back on the half-way line Brackley looked threatening. They had similar passages of play all through the match but never scored.
Biggleswade however as soon as they got into the opposition’s “22” they more often than not scored. Even when seemingly hard pressed in defence once they broke out a score quickly followed.
Despite having the better three-quarters who were organised in defence and dominant in attack it was the Biggleswade forwards who got the first points on the board.
Kyle Loan, always loitering with intent, had a brace in the first ten minutes Prop Ben Yates getting the third after more forward pressure.
But the try of the first half came from Alex Borg. Having defended a Brackley burst, Biggleswade ran the ball from their twenty-two. Alex Borg injected pace and raced away for a 50-metre dash for the touchdown
Turning round twenty four to nil ahead having secured the bonus point the coaching team set the targets for the second half. They were to put fifty on the board and keep a clean sheet. Both aims were achieved with more of the same.
It wasn’t a poor Brackley team but they were simply outplayed. Biggleswade were stronger in all areas, better organised and well accustomed to winning by a margin.
In their 14 wins to date each has seen an average of over forty points scored with a four try bonus point each time. The try tally is 91 with over fifty per cent converted. There have been only four successful penalty kicks because that’s about all there have been attempts.
Try scorers were Kyle Loan (2), Tom Anderson (2), Ben Yates, Alex Borg, Jake Devereux, Jack Sharp, Will Evans.
Several players picked up knocks so it is a relief that there is no league match next week. An away trip to Dunstablians on 27th January is the next game.
Thanks to David Kay as ever for some fantastic photos from the game
