Letchworth Men’s 3rd XV 0 - 12 Biggleswade 2nd XV
The 2nds returned to action with their fourth away game of the season, lining up against Letchworth 3rds.
With a few last-minute alterations and several call-ups to Biggy’s first team, there were senior debuts for three players including ex-colt Ed Findlay.
The first half was an attritional affair. A cross wind combined with a sloping pitch resulted in lineouts being a lottery. It was all about patience.
As Biggleswade settled into the game they became more dominant in defence, which gave the whole team energy. Debutant Jack Sharp provided quick ball to the forwards who battled their way up the pitch. The final play of the first half saw Dave Leslie break off from a scrum and score underneath the posts, providing a straightforward conversion for Luke Haverly.
The second half opened up as bodies began to tire, but the Biggy defence remained resolute. With the game in the balance, tempers started to flare, but Biggleswade remained calm and focused on closing out the game.
The decisive moment came when Dave Leslie scored his second of the match to gave Biggy a 12-0 lead. With a two score gap Biggleswade could turn the screw and held out to nil the home team despite a late onslaught.
As the league takes a break for international fixtures the 2nd team sit top of the league. They welcome Hitchin 3rd XV to Langford Road on the 27 November for what is only their second home league game of the season.
